Kathryn Ian is a multimedia artist, musician and performer living and working in the San Francisco Bay Area. She has exhibited and performed throughout the United States, Europe and Russia. Kathryn works both collaboratively and as a solo artist. She is also an award winning educator, recognized by the City and County of San Francisco and the San Francisco Legislative Assembly for her commitment to youth empowerment and civic engagement through art education.

Kathryn engages both old and new media, analogue processes and new technologies in her immersive audio-visual installations, still and moving images, videos and performances. In her practice, she studies mediation as a phenomenon that simultaneously allows for both separation and linkage. She is inspired by themes relating to ecology, both scientifically and philosophically, and uses imaging and audio technologies to explore the intersections and relationships between the intimate and the environmental.
